Saturday and Sunday of Labour Weekend saw New Plymouth Girls’ High School host an invitational tournament at the Stadium.

This event included not only a top provincial team but also nationally ranked Trident High School from the Bay of Plenty. This opportunity provided much preparation for our girls for the Junior North Island Secondary Schools tournament which is due to be held in the first week of December in Rotorua.

Trident High School consisted of a squad of 10 junior players, together with coach Graeme Walker who arrived Friday night in New Plymouth for two nights stay. The Trident team were well accommodated in the school Wharenui, and were able to use the school facilities which made their stay comfortable whilst here for competition.

Our Junior girls thrived on 2 days of play, which also included our NPGHS Seniors, plus a local New Plymouth Women’s side captained by our own member of staff, Tracy Murray.

Co-Coaches Brendan Dickson, and Tracy reflected on what this tournament had to offer our Junior girls as a build-up to NISS and how it gave a real taste of top level competition, which enabled our players to experience genuine match style games which will prove invaluable. Both coaches were impressed with the sense of commitment and growing development within the side, and are looking forward to the next stage of competition. Also special thanks to the many parents, friends, family and staff who came to support over the course of the weekend.

NPGHS Junior girls continue their campaign this week with the first round of Regionals commencing Friday 30 th of October held at Spotswood College to determine seedings for Nationals. Good luck girls!!
