The first game of the day was against Waitara High School, Ania starting as Pitcher and Erin as Catcher. They both did a great job to keep the hitting from Waitara to a minimum. Our girls used the game as a good practice session and to learn all the rules needed as only Ania, Erin and Lizzy play in the regular Softball competition team every Saturday. The girls became a bit confused about when to run when on base and we lost a few outs to players running when they didn’t need to. Lizzy lead the team well as Captain and Senior students, Kelsey Waitere (Year 13), Mikaela Waitere (Year 12) and Chikaina Makatea (Year 13) were also great support to the girls as our senior helpers and helped to give the girls quick lessons with rules of the game and also to keep spirits high.

Inglewood High School was our second game and the girls confidence had certainly been boosted with the first win under their belts and our times in the field certainly proved that the new girls had taken good advice from the experienced players and were doing all the right things to aid the team in getting some good outs. Ania and Lizzy took on the pitching tasks and Erin in at catcher keeping the ball at home when most needed.

Opunake High School was our final game that we needed to win. The girls certainly took the game to Opunake High! Ania  pitching the whole game and Erin doing a great job at catcher until Johnny-Lee put her hand up to give it a go which proved effective as she covered this position well. Our overall batting improved as the day progressed and the girls fielding certainly became more skilled despite a few nail biting moments during this game.
