The weather was fine and the conditions were excellent for Cricket. The result was good for NPGHS. Batting first, GHS started with Maree Heal (Year 12), Kate Baxter (Year 12) and Brooke Sim (Year 13) batting particularly well. Maree made 39, Kate 33 and Brooke 76 runs (which was an excellent innings). NPGHS were all out for 205 runs. In reply, Wanganui Collegiate were bowled out for 115 runs in 31 overs. Bowling for GHS, Maree Heal took 2 wickets for 10 runs, Kate Baxter 3-10 and Mc Kenzie Kawana-Waugh (Year 9) 2-21. This is a particularly satisfying result as we played the match without the services of our New Zealand A team player Kate Broadmore (Year 13). All team members contributed in some way to making this a creditable performance and one on which the team can build on towards the National tournament NPGHS have been National champions for 6 consecutive years. Many thanks to Debu Banik (Coach) and Jeff Cleaver (TIC and umpire) and Jamie Watkins (Taranaki Cricket) who was the other game umpire on the day. Special thanks to the NPGHS groundsmen for preparing the ground and parents for support towards the team. Good luck for the nationals girls! You are representing the school with pride. |
