RUGBY 1 ST XV PROGRESS REPORT On Sunday 22 July, NPGHS 1 st XV, captained by Neesha Barrett had an excellent game against Sacred Heart College. The score 34-14 to NPGHS probably reflects the calibre of both teams. GHS dominated the game mostly, but Sacred Heart definitely showed that they were up for the challenge for the entire game and capitalised on the weaknesses of NPGHS. It is fair to say that NPGHS has a tradition of success on the Rugby field and a lot of this can be attributed to the commitment of both the players, coaches and the supporters. As well as this, a team atmosphere based around fun, a serious attitude on the paddock as well as constant positive feedback and ‘back to basics’ tactics are the key ingredients to this team’s success. With a large contingent of the 2006 First XV leaving, there has had to be a ‘ground rules’ approach in 2007 so that the new players especially can be skilled enough to deal with a full rugby schedule. The team has excellent leadership, Neesha Barrett, Amy Tipling and Laura Lobb all show competent Rugby skills as well as role modelling Fairplay and expected behaviour, especially towards Junior players Scores so far this year: |
